Pipeline Seams – Challenges and Solutions

Recorded on June 24, 2020 – 11:00 AM Mountain

Presented by – Frank Gareau, VP Engineering, Skystone International (An Acuren company)

Line pipe longitudinal weld seams may contain anomalies due to the manufacturing process. These anomalies often relate to the specific welding process that is characterized by the era of pipe manufacturing. Specific regulations in the United States and general regulation requirements in Canada require integrity assessments to be made to address potential seam-defect problems, particularly in low-frequency-welded ERW (electric-resistance-welded) pipe materials. This webinar will discuss the benefits of laboratory characterization of such anomalies to complement inspection and monitoring of these ERW seams. The characterization of such anomalies can be the basis for the assessment of integrity of these weld seams. The presenter is Frank Gareau, VP Engineering, Skystone International, an Acuren Company.

Non-Intrusive Inspection – AUT In Lieu of Internal Inspection

Presented on May 19, 2020 – 10:00 AM Mountain

Presenter: Dave Bajula, General Manager – Advanced NDT Services

Imagine being able to assess the integrity of equipment WITHOUT having to enter the vessel or reactor!

Imagine having a higher confidence in no eminent equipment failure!

Imagine being able to assure MI with only 50% of the cost for an internal inspection!

The ability to perform an on-stream inspection of pressure vessels in lieu of an internal inspection is invaluable to current operations.  During times of expected cost savings by the refineries and process plants, coupled with the increasing dangers associated with entering confined spaces, ways to increase productivity safely are crucial. Over the past 20 years Acuren has mastered non-intrusive inspection (NII) using Automated UT in lieu of Internal Inspection.  This presentation highlights an enhanced awareness and appreciation for alternative inspection techniques as better…..faster…..cheaper.

This presentation highlighted an enhanced awareness and appreciation for an ultrasonic approach and was delivered by Dave Bajula, GM – Advanced NDT Services, who has more than 40 years experience in this field.

Advanced Diagnostics – A Stepped Approach

Presented on June 11, 2020 – 11:00 AM Mountain

Presenter – Andrew Costain, GM Reliability Engineering

In the current maintenance and reliability landscape, our industries are technology rich, with many tools and ‘smart systems’ to utilize. The focus has, in some instances, become symptom based, monitoring and forecasting EOL for components. At times, maintenance and operations lose focus of the ‘big picture’ and how different components interact and impact each other. Advanced Diagnostics is the deeper look for cause and effect, and where unwanted input energy enters the system, not solely focusing on the ‘weak link’ where failure often occurs. This webinar walked through a stepped approach to using Advanced Diagnostics, how to determine the proper test scope, testing techniques and a few real‐world examples; equipment symptoms, failed correction attempts, application of Advanced Diagnostic Techniques, results and implemented corrections. Our presenter was Andrew Costain – GM, Reliability Engineering, who has over 20 years in the industry.
