Condition Monitoring

Condition based monitoring (CBM), or Condition based maintenance is a maintenance approach, usually applied to essential, critical assets and equipment.  It is based upon the principle of using real-time data to prioritize and optimize maintenance activities. The objective of the CBM approach is to confirm the existence of an issue, identify the root cause, and apply tactics to resolve the problem prior to loss of production.  CBM is a style of predictive maintenance whereby the indicators of an assets predicted failure or sub optimum performance are what drives maintenance activities. This is a different approach to preventative maintenance where activities are typically driven by periodic outage windows or regularly scheduled intervals for maintenance activities. Typically, condition based monitoring activities can be completed while the equipment is in service which can realize significant savings over outage driven preventative maintenance approaches.
