Ropes Team Saves Thousands on Pump Box Work

Project Overview

During a planned outage ultrasonic testing and visual inspection revealed that a significant portion of the pump box floor either needed to be repaired, or cut out and replaced.

Summary

During a planned outage ultrasonic testing and visual inspection revealed that a significant portion of the pump box floor either needed to be repaired, or cut out and replaced. As well, 16 spray nozzles needed to be replaced. Because of the difficult access area, a ropes solution was proposed.

The Challenge

Historically, while work on the floor was being done, no other work above could be carried out simultaneously due to safety hazards.

The Methodology

We engineered a solution to weld hangers to the sides and secure safe out netting to protect the workers and catch any falling debris, allowing contractors to simultaneously work above our team.

The Value

The solution allowing simultaneous work saved 72 man hours and the ropes capability saved 654 man hours for just inspection and access. Our team can complete access and inspection in the time it takes to just erect scaffold.

Faced with anomaly-related pressure reductions and ambiguous ILI results, a client turned to Acuren's engineering team for a comprehensive integrity solution. Acuren managed nitrogen purging, anomaly cutouts, spike and hydrotesting, and pipeline restoration, securing a five-year reassessment interval and re-establishing MOP. Through strategic planning and contingencies, the project exceeded expectations, finishing early and under budget.
