Mega Rule Regulations in Practice
Pipeline Hazard Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) Mega Rule applies to interstate and intrastate pipelines. It will require owner operators to update incomplete pipeline records dating back as far as the 1940’s. There are 3 major requirements for gas pipelines under the Mega Rule and they include:

- Intensifying the risk assessment and maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) requirements
- Expanding the integrity management program regulations to gathering lines and other previously nonregulated
lines - Increasing reporting and safety as per section 192.607, supported with procedures for
- Traceability
- Verification – supported with non-destructive and destructive testing
- Completeness and accuracy of the assets subject to regulatory oversight
Pipeline owners or operators have a diverse range of needs, and while no single provider meets all, we have chosen to focus our experience, expert knowledge and technology in the areas where we can offer service and execution excellence. Acuren has developed our midstream program to support all aspects of the Mega Rule, partnering with and engaging owner / operators with auditing programs, identifying gaps, digitizing paper records, developing digital data gathering platforms, standardizing Mega Data records and investing in insitu material verification technologies.
