Acuren’s Aboriginal Policy
It is crucial that our relationships with Aboriginal communities and businesses are positive ones. Our goal is to positively impact the communities we work with, providing proper consultation, education, policies, training, and outreach initiatives. We have a comprehensive Aboriginal Strategy in place to ensure that is the case.
Components of Acuren’s Aboriginal Strategy include:
Building and supporting community relationships
Our Aboriginal Policy defines our intent to develop and sustain positive community relationships. It underlines a commitment to coordinate our activities across the country and within the respective regions, and it identifies the goal of assigning specific individuals in each region to be responsible for relationship building and developing community relationship plans. To support our commitment to building these relationships, Acuren will provide skills development training to employees to work with Aboriginal communities. We will identify accountability and success measures in business plans, and work collaboratively with other client companies to address priority community needs.
Maintaining appropriate business relationships
Where work opportunities arise on reserve lands, traditional lands, land claim and Métis Settlements areas, Acuren will consult with the community to determine the capability and interest of community members in performing the work. In addition, we will provide the necessary training to individuals who demonstrate the capability and aptitude to perform the work.
Acuren also commits to respect Aboriginal concerns regarding the environmental impact of activities, with particular attention to the use of rights-of-way. Before consulting with the community, Acuren will define and understand the activities to be undertaken, the options for Aboriginal community involvement, and any potential impact on the Aboriginal community. Community consultation will be done through or in conjunction with Acuren’s regional Aboriginal liaison.
Identifying efforts that lead to longer-term opportunities
Our strategy outlines the company’s long-term objective to have its workforce reflect the makeup of the communities we serve. To this end, Acuren will encourage Aboriginal students to engage in NDT and trades-related careers, participate in career awareness efforts and develop training opportunities targeted at Aboriginal community members.
Acuren will pursue efforts to establish an appropriate workplace environment that allows the company to attract and retain Aboriginal employees, including assessing internal policies to ensure they do not pose systemic barriers to employment.
