Failures causing equipment damage or business interruption often require investigation to determine the cause, either for loss prevention or insurance investigation. Acuren’s materials engineering staff can determine the root cause of a component failure using a combination of techniques such as fracture mechanics, metallography, mechanical testing, chemical testing, destructive analysis, non-destructive testing and SEM analysis. These techniques can be used for both metallic and non-metallic components in industries including pulp and paper, petrochemical, pipeline and civil industries. Our projects range in size from refinery and pipeline explosions, industrial machinery and process equipment failures, gearing and power-train failures, to wire rope, small equipment, tools, and plumbing component failures.

Applications:
- Determining the cause of a failure to prevent a future occurrence of the failure.
- Acting as expert witnesses in litigation cases.
